Methow steelhead advice
« on: October 25, 2015, 10:46:57 PM »
I know, I know.  Fisherman don't like to share too much info but I'm looking into possibly trying my hand at steelhead fishing this fall/winter.  I hear the methow can be productive.  Where should I start? Does everyone mostly bobber jig it? How about bait? Shimp or eggs? Or does it all just depend on the day?  I have a boat [17' Crestliner fishhawk) but I'm not afraid to fish from shore either.
Thanks in advance.

The Methow steelhead are summer runs. Now is when you want to be fishing it. Hit em down low near Pateros from the bank. They get pretty trouty up there. Fish 1/8 and 1/16 ounce jigs under a float.  Water is gin clear so you'll find them where there is some surface chop. i.e. riffles, head ins, etc. Jigs in blue, purple or red work. My favorite jig there is purple head, with red bead body, and red marabou tail. Have fun.

Steeliedrew advice is what I would do. I'd throw in some whites as well. Small spinners to.
