« on: October 28, 2015, 07:03:50 PM »
Long story short I drew the Multi Season Deer permit. Ive been wanting to try muzzle loading, so heres my chance. I have a piece of private ground in GMU 181. Planning on hunting the week before Thanksgiving.

School me. Checkmate me.

For most of the early season you are concentrating on first light and dusk....hanging out close to a trail that connects his bedroom with his kitchen.  During the rut, all bets are off.  A whitetail buck "with loving on his mind" might show up at any time....

Ill break down how guys seem to do it around my area.  First you need to get up after the crack of dawn, stand around the fire for an hour drinking coffee and/or beer.  By 8:00 or so get in your truck (make sure to wear full camo so you blend in well with your seat covers) drive around a gate with "motorized vehicles prohibited" signs, and start hunting.  Occasionally slow down to 5mph to glass a good looking spot for 30-45 seconds, then keep going.  If you didnt see a buck standing up broadside out in the open, there are no deer there.  Make sure you leave a good trail of dorito bags and beer cans so that you can find your way back to camp for lunch!!  After a few hours of lunch, head back out and repeat.  Make sure to be back at the campfire at least 45 minutes before legal shooting light ends.  Drink lots of beers, scattering the cans around your campsite and say how "theres no bucks around here"    one of your party of 10 will probably kill a spike.  Make sure to refer to it as a "nice fat" spike.  Its not just any old spike after all.
