Lesson Learned

So I learned a valuable lesson today. I guess a bear box and maybe a second camera watching the first one is the only way to go. Someone trespassed onto my parents place this last week and stole my trail camera.  I guess I shouldn't have thought this wouldn't be an issue on private property. But like the title says... Lesson learned.

Colin, for your reflection.  I posted this previously, but I lost a camera to thieves sometime in the past year.  It was on a 15-month soak, very deep in the Idaho mountains.  National forest.  50 miles from the nearest town.  5 miles from the "main logging road." 3 miles on a trail from the nearest logging road.  At least a 1.5 hour hike in to the spot.  Bolted to a tree, in a bear box, with a cable.

Thieves broke the lock, took the camera, but couldn't take the box, so they left that.

A bear box is better than nothing, but determined thieves will get it anyway.

Holy cow.  Yeah that sounds like they were determined. I enjoy having the camera up. This was my first camera and was a good experience until today. Its a cruddy feeling to have something stolen. I learned some things about trail cameras and I look forward to future experiences with them.
