Hey guys me and my dad are trying to plan an antelope hunt next year. We don't really know what to do. And the Wyoming prices are confusing. If anyone can help. One youth antlerless and one adult. Thanks!

The sky's the limit in Wyoming. Start on their G&F Page. They have tons of info on walk in areas, public access to private lands, and myriad drawing and harvest statistics. The main number I call when I have stupid questions is (307) 777-4600. They're pretty helpful. Biologists and wardens are more difficult to get a hold of.

Basically if you want to pay the lower cost, $286 for a buck tag, you'll be in the odds with most of us. If you're willing to pay the special fee (I don't know what is it? $150 more or so..) you get better drawing odds. If you have points and will pay the special fee, you can get into some great units with tons of public land and tons of lopes.

Oh yeah, you're in luck. You can still buy a point for 2015. Only 2 days left. Its $30 per hunter for a point. DO IT NOW.

youth points are $10 each, my plan has always been apply for the best unit in the state, knowing I won't draw without a good number of points, then apply for a good but not spectacular unit as your 2nd choice. go hunt and keep building points for the best units. go here to see some of my posts

There are plenty of units that you can draw every year.  We usually put in for a difficult unit as our first choice and then as a backup put unit 29 or unit 30 (east side near Douglas). We normally draw our second choice and WY grants you a bonus point if you don't get your first choice. That way we get to hunt every year while accumulating points for the harder to draw units.

Game and Fish used to maintain a list of landowners that allow access for a few- call them and see if they still do.  That's how we found a ranch that we've been hunting for the past ten years or so.  Access fees are usually pretty reasonable- we pay $300 a tag- and we've always had good experiences doing that.  If you are going to hunt public, make sure you pick a unit with plenty of it.  Units that are mostly private typically see a lot of pressure on the public land available.

We've only paid the extra $'s for the Special tags once or twice; if you pick a unit that doesn't require preference points you can save the money and just out in for the regular draw.  Overall, it's pretty hard to have a bad hunt- you'll likely see a lot of animals in some great country and have a blast.  Good luck and PM me if you have any specific questions.

You should do some digging and investigating on your own. Download the draw odds spreadsheets and find out which units take the longest to draw. They even break it down by resident vs non resident and special vs regar draw.  Some units are in demand for different reasons.  It would be a disservice if people just started spouting off unit numbers, and then you got there and found out they're mostly wilderness, private property,etc.  if you didn't know, non-residents must pay a guide or go with a residence to access wilderness areas. It's bull crap, but the law.  Personally, I refuse to pay those crooked guides for this Racket. 👎🏼

I have done a ton of research and I know which ones I'm putting in for. Just a question to see where everyone think is the best.  Not your secret place or where you put in for...... But there are some units here that we all put in for that we never get drawn. But we still put in for them.

Get a subscription to Huntin Fool. They will list the best units to apply for. Then do your own research and apply elsewhere.
