Time for a big Thank You !!
« on: November 06, 2015, 03:53:04 PM »
A few months ago I requested some info from members for a Goose Prairie Bull Elk hunt.  My son drew the modern rifle bull tag, and we had never hunted this area.  I received a lot of very helpful input (and a few not so helpful comments).

Thanks to everyone who was willing to share their knowledge.  We received lots of advice on areas to scout and hunt.  Member PAW66 even went so far as to share his trail cam pictures of some nice bulls.

We scouted and hunted a number of areas, and saw some bulls, including a huge 7x7.  Eventually my son and his buddy spotted a very nice 5x5 up on a ridge that he just could not pass up !!

As can be seen in the pictures, the hillside where the bull died was very steep.  In order to quarter it out, it had to be tied-off to a couple of small trees to keep it from rolling down the hill.  Once the elk was quartered, each of my sons and a friend made two trips each to the truck and the job was done.

What a great hunt, and thanks again !!

A BIG thank you as well for being invited on this incredible hunt.

We hunted hard for a solid two and half days before seeing this elk and there is not much to say it all happened so fast.  Once spotted, I call out "big 5x5 do want to take him" I said, "should I" he said, "well..." I said and without hesitation BOOM perfect shot the elk quartered away downhill, "he's hit, he's hit hard but not going down" I said, BOOM another perfect shot, "he stopped and is going down any second" I said, BOOM the third and final shot rang out "He's down, he's down!".  I still can't believe it took three perfectly placed lung shots to bring this animal down.

Lifelong memories created and congrats to my bud on a fine elk, I feel very fortunate for being part of this hunt.

We also found some nice sheds, a couple arrows, and the coveted Ghost Camp chit!
