Advice for late buck
« on: November 08, 2015, 06:06:08 AM »
First off, I am new to this forum and have really enjoyed the stories and tips that many of you have shared of late.

I really enjoy blacktail hunting and find the greatest reward being in the woods with dad and my two young boys. I have started to become more of an avid hunter the last few years mostly because of decreased opportunity to fish for salmon and steelhead, although I have hunted for 15-20 years.

So, dad and I hunted pretty hard for 4 or 5 days during the regular season. The area has a mixed terrain with timber, newer clear cuts, and thicker dog hair with pockets you can see into. There seems to be activity, rubs, tracks, but the problem is we only saw a few does and no bucks. My question is should we continue to hunt this area when extended buck opens in hopes that bucks may be more active or moved into the area searching for does?

Hey! I'm not a complete idiot I have parts missing. Though sometimes I wonder.

If you find fresh rubs that are within the last few weeks, i would hunt close to that.  "typically" the big bucks won't be found in the middle of a clear cut.   My experience has been that they like the thicker reprod, or old growth.  I have found that black tail like to chase does in the reprod and then bed down on the timber line or close to it.  What Blacklab said to,  chances are really high that if you find a doe in late season, there will be a buck close by.

Late Buck generally is prime time! Be on your game daylight to dark. The Gray Ghost could come alone at anytime?
Slap some bacon on a biscut and lets go, were burrnin daylight!
