Id love to be able to hang out with you for a day! I'm envious that I'm not able to get out and see what you get to see. A lot! Thanks for sharing your pictures. I may not see those animals in real life. But you sure make it easy to daydream about it!

Yeah, I currently live in Hawaii...I know, rough life...But I look forward to moving back to Washington every day.  September 2016 cannot get here soon enough!  Until then, I look at Bone's calendar everyday and mark an X until then.

Quick tip on width.  A deers ear  is about 8 inches.   If you have an ears length outside on both sides that's about 16 inches.   The width between ear tip to ear tip varies with position of the ears  and the deer itself.  Anywhere from 18 to 23 inches.

Be conservative and less likely looking like a fool, pick 18 plus 8 plus 8 equals 34.
One side doesn't quite look 8.   Sooooooo.  33 ish.  And when you tape it and it's 34 or 35, you can be pleasantly surprised.  :)

Love seeing your photos Bone. And that's a good tip on judging width in the field.
Thanks!

Just to add to the info bone gave, but I started measuring ears a few years ago out of sheer curiosity,  and found that ears vary in size from region to region.  Both my Idaho buck and my Colorado buck had 9" ears.  Most washington deer I measured were 8-8 1/2".  Montana was the same.
