Retired military (this year) in Thurston county longtime hunter
« on: November 23, 2015, 08:07:59 PM »
I've been hunting on base (Fort Lewis) for over 10 years now and have shot both elk and deer with the muzzleloader and bow, but I'm thinking it's time to explore some more of the state. I grew up hunting in Wisconsin where the public hunting was plentiful and without too much pressure, gun season got a little crazy sometimes of course.

Anyways, I was thinking about heading out to Soda springs in the next couple months to do some turkey season scouting and maybe break out the AR and smack some coyotes while I'm out, but I don't even know where to start over there and where the access points are.

I've pretty much hunted alone all of these years, but figured I'd see if anyone else might be in the same boat or looking to find someone to tag along.

I'm interested.  Not sure where you are talking about going but I am always up for a new adventure and meeting new people.  I live in Selah. If you are coming east we could meet in Ellensburg. I just took an Airforce guy from Idaho on his first mule deer hunt. Turned out great.  He only had 1.5 days so we got him a doe but he had a shot at a buck.  Call me some time.  509-424-9919.

I'll get back on here when I get some free time in the next few weeks/months.

Base is so frustrating these days. Years ago every area was open if there was no training going on, now it's hit or miss anymore. I guess we'll see what the lower training area's have to offer this week. Good thing I got my cold weather gear in today!
