How crowded is late archery elk?
« on: November 23, 2015, 11:13:46 PM »
So I am planning on doing a predator hunt with my brother for the day on Wednesday. I have a MS deer tag plus a cougar tag and intend to bring my bow along just in case. I found lots of areas with predator sign during muzzleloader elk season and want to revisit them. However I am concerned that with that day being the opener for late elk it will be crowded and hard to hunt for anything. My other option is to head for the sage and focus on yotes with very slim odds for anything else.  Any thoughts? No archery elk tag for me otherwise I would be on that.

I kill elk and eat elk, when I'm not, I'm thinking about killing elk and eating elk.

I guess it depends on your perspective. You won't be alone but in my opinion, the crowds are much less than the early season. The weather is usually so nasty that most guys won't even get out of their trucks and if they do, they don't wonder far off the main roads. Get out and get wet and you'll find yourself alone with the elk. Good luck!

I'd be hunting in Taneum, gmu 336. I expect people to be out, just curious if it will be like early archery? Worse?

This will be my first try for late season archery...so not sure what to expect but based on my experience with hunting during modern season and playing tick-tack-toe with the hunter orange vests...I'm not too concerned about the crowds. I guess it's all in perspective 😉

This is possible in the eastside units

Westside late archery elk   :4w: :4w: :4w: :4w: :4w: :4w: and there's no long hikes to be had in most of the good units
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. Suppose to be windy and frigid across the Basin. We're gonna give the foothills a try. Crowded or not it's a better forecast for calling conditions.

Not sure if it was the weather or the amount of people who've switched to archery. Either way it was packed in the unit my partners hunted.
