Finally broke in the .204
« on: January 21, 2009, 11:32:57 AM »
My first confirmed kill with the new toy. This unlucky yote happened to stand in a field just a few seconds to long this morning. 200 yards with the new .204, 32 grain hornady. This one hit the dirt without even a quiver. The first one I shot the other day hit the dirt, flipped around bit his shoulder and got away. No blood. I am going to switch to the 40 grain, suppose to do a better job on the bigger critters.

I have achieved what I was after with the gun though. I could not find the entrance or exit hole. Pelt saver for sure.

Does anyone ever weigh their yotes? I never have. This one weighs 34 lbs. What is a big dog for eastern WA anyone know?

Cool! Glad you got a dog with the new gun! I am not sure, but a 34lb yote sounds like it would be a good size one? I did not figure they got much bigger than 35lbs.
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!

I was thinking 35 was a big one too. They normally feel like about 20-25lbs

Congrats, I don't think I've ever seen one in central wa weigh over 40 lbs but a couple of times. BullElk shot a 37 lb one last week and that's been the biggest one so far we have got this year. So 34 lbs is getting right up there. That's about the same size as mine from Monday. I've been shooting the 32 grs with good results also. Been thinking about switching to the 39 or 40 gr bullets but need to shoot the 300+ 32 gr loads I have.

"I have achieved what I was after with the gun though. I could not find the entrance or exit hole. Pelt saver for sure."  He's faking it or you just scared him to death.   :chuckle:  Nice dog, congrats!!

Way to break in a sweet rifle!   Once you go .204, you never go back!  Are you going to shoot 40 grain V-max's?

As soon at my 32's are gone, I have a box and a half, I am switching to the 40 grain V-max yes. Just a little more velocity out at longer(200-400 yard) ranges.
