Waterfowler new to the area
« on: November 29, 2015, 06:03:21 PM »
Hey all,

Just joined the forum - first post! I'm new out here from Ohio (moved in April) to follow work. I've spent the past 7 years or so hunting the marshes along the western basin of Lake Erie. Always decent hunting, but I'm really excited to be out here in the pacific flyway, specifically with all the potential in eastern Washington. There appears to be a lot of knowledge on this site. I'll do my best to post my own success stories soon, but have a feeling there will be a lot of 0's until I find my way around! A lot more country out here than what I'm used to. My head is spinning from all of the different terrain and game opportunities. Waterfowling is my passion, but I'll definitely pursue upland game as well.

Got my license and tags this weekend and will probably head east from Bonney Lake next weekend to see how lost I can get! Looking forward to networking and getting involved with this community.

Dan

I'm from the Midwest as well and I'd be happy to show you around (although I haven't waterfowl hunted for years around here), unfortunately, I can't go this weekend.

Start looking around Dodson Road West of Moses Lake, that used to be a good area.

I'm located down in Lacey.

Thanks for the information! I ended up going pheasant hunting last weekend. A guy from work who is also new out here wanted to go and he does not have gear for waterfowl. We never seen a bird, however had a really nice time. Great scenery, exercise, and dog work. We seen some tracks in the snow, and the dog had a couple half hearted points that turned up empty. I expect it will take a few trips to get on the birds.

First time I've made it across the mountains. Was not expecting that much snow on the pass! Beautiful out there though; beats the crap out of the crowding where I live.

Got invited to waterfowl hunt this coming week near the river... can't wait.

Yep it used to be a good place to hunt.  Now it's overloaded with hunters, even mid-week.  Oh what the heck.  Come on over and join the crowd. Get used to competitive calling and the jerks who take pop shots while birds are working your spread so you can't hunt them.
Rant over.
Welcome to Washington.  God bless.
