Disabled hunter with a capital forest permit.
« on: December 02, 2015, 04:11:05 PM »
Has anybody been on this late archery hunt.  Or any disabled hunter hunt in this area?  It will be my first hunt in quite a few years.  Looking forward to getting back in the woods.  Even if it is limited.  Thank you for any info anybody has.  Brand new to this forum  but it looks great!

So what you have is the motorized access permit to a gated area?

Yes.  One of the 4 for the last hunt of the year.  Not expecting any hot spots.  Just overall  if there is a good chance of seeing deer.  Thanks. Never hunted this area.  So don't know what to expect.

Not a very large area, and there will be deer in all of the clearcuts. Just like anywhere else, they're blacktails and not easy to hunt. I can't really help you much other than to say that the newer clearcuts that you'll want to hunt begin about 2 1/2 miles in. That's about halfway to the top. The C line is at the top and there's another gate there, which I don't believe you will be able to open. Just know that there could be other hunters parking at that gate and walking or biking in. Also don't be surprised if you see other vehicles up there that are not hunters, but most likely brush pickers, as they give them keys to the gate as well. Also it's not uncommon to see people illegally riding ATV's in there. You should see deer. I wouldn't hold out for a buck though.

His permit is for the other side of Capital Forest.

Oh shucks!!! Actually he is probably better off there.

Never hunted it, but my family spends a week at Tacoma Motorcycle Club's property every July and I jump a lot of nice deer just above their property.  On the other side there are actually better areas, the problem with me is I could drive to them... but wouldn't know where to start to tell anyone else how to get there.  I don't sit in camp playing cards, I was out on my Polaris Ranger, before it got stolen, poking around looking for cat sign and saw a lot of deer on that side.  The deer are pretty jumpy in Cap Forest though.  Archery is going to make it pretty tough, lots of poaching.

This is good advice.

I appreciate the information.  Looking forward to getting out there.  I guess they supply a aerial map of the area. But all the information is greatly appreciated.  Haven't been out in years.  And used to hundreds the deer and bear of the NE corner of the state.  But with these legs I am not expecting much.  But hoping to see some deer.  And spend some quality time with my grown son.  Have a good one.  And we will keep you posted how it goes.
