How Many will Support Houndsmen?
« on: January 22, 2009, 08:44:58 PM »
So how many of you folks are going stand with the FEW remaining houndsmen in this state and confront the WDFW about taking away hound hunting for coyotes?  There is ABSOLUTELY no scientific reason to outlaw it and there has been no fricken Initiative outlawing it.  There is NO reason to outlaw coyote hunting with dogs.  I'm asking for your support, when you do your e-mails and when we go to the meetings.

Well I don't even use dogs for bird hunting (I would actually need to get out to chase them), but I would fully support the use of hounds. If a line isn't drawn they will continue to limit the use of dogs in other forms of hunting. I don't make it to any meetings, but I will forward or send emails in support.

I don't hound hunt and don't really have an interest in doing it in the future. But I will send off an email in support of the use of hounds as a management tool. I don't see any reason why they should get rid of hounds, other than they are caving in to special interest groups that are anti hunters put pressure on them to do it.

Thanks guys!

I don't chase coyotes with hounds either, but there is no reason to take this away from those guys who do.  I run coons here and I imagine we're next on the chopping box, then guys who run beagles on rabbits and so forth......

Might be a dumb question, but does putting your dogs in direct contact with coyotes give them a greater risk of diseases like parvo and such?

Not unless they are not current on vaccinations.  Parvo and other canine diseases are pretty rampant in all our towns.  If you take a unvaccinated puppy down tot he park and he runs around for a bit, he'll most likely end up with parvo.

That is a good point. Just because you don't do it doesn't mean that someone else doesn't. (does anyone hunt yotes with dogs?) These new hunting proposals seem so anti hunter to me. Anti hunting groups don't try and take it all away at once, little piece by little piece until it is all gone. Stand up for them, someday they may be able to stand up for you.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

The part about being "socially acceptable" is sure to be pressure from the anti hunting lobby.  If another group said it was just as loud who are they going to side with.  The trappers lost out here because no one stuck together,  then another, and another, and another.  I dont hunt here with dogs for coyote but Ills end a letter or email too.

I saw some guys up at the Mt Baker Sno area hunting coons with dogs.  I was going to talk with them more but I didnt want to cut into the daylight as it was burning fast.  I wanted to talk with them about it too.  Soon no coons, no birds, rabbits, nothing...

Count me in.  We neeed unification.  We have a young man on another thread that is suggesting to the game dept, that modern rifle be eliminated from the the August bear hunt.  You know they are going to start it in Sept.  Punish everyone for the act of one.
I hope we get a director that tunes an ear to us for a change.  Public pressure should only be those that buy the tags, license, and all the other stuff required.
I will email Cope right away, and several times there after.

My letter is supporting hound hunting.  I feel all of us need to support each other, not bicker about this and that!!!!!
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Never hunted coyotes with hounds but I've run into a few groups of people who do it.  I don't see any reason not to allow hounds to run dogs.  Last deer season I saw 59 in two days...don't really think there is a shortage.  I have been coon hunting with hounds on numerous occasions and am a little worried that coon hunting with hounds will be banned next.  I have pretty much lost hope in ever seeing cat hunting with hounds ever return.  We are pretty lucky to even have several areas open for draw permits.  Anyways, I wish the PETA tree huggin' hippie groups would understand that we are doing them a favor using hounds.  They wouldn't have to worry about getting attacked while they were out nature biking or worry about their pet poodle FeeFee getting eaten.

They did it in California, now the mountain lions and bears have joined the coyotes in managing the numbers of moutnian bikers and hikers, as well as children out of arms reach.  When I was in California I saw bit in KCal or soemthing from a security camera with a young kid shateboarding in a private gated community.  The security camera caught a coyote trying to attack the kid.  THeres many issues about coyotes in California.

I was camping at Joshua tree one winter and the coyotes were circling around outside my tent.  My dog was inside my tent, he and my wife had a hard time sleeping withthem yipping and walking around outside the tent.  THey never tried to come in the tent, and dont know what would have happened if they did.  There had to be at least 4 or 5 of them.  Occasionally I could see them touching the tent with their muzzle.
