You may also want to check out the marine forecasts, you can pull them up on VHF and I have a cheap app on my phone that pulls the tides, weather and forecast.  They are usually pretty accurate and have kept me off the water when conditions in the morning looked good.

I had checked all of that. Later in the afternoon/evening it was supposed to blow in but our plan was hunt until noon.

Not sure what the real true story is hear but I hope a serious lesson was learned by everyone involved and maybe even a few readers.
One big thing: WEAR your life jacket. It doesn't do anyone any good if you're not wearing it.
That's all I'll say on this thread.
I AM very glad no one was injured.
