Squirrels near Granite Falls?
« on: December 22, 2015, 02:09:19 PM »
About to get into hunting for my first time. Thkught i would start out with small game and mainly squirrels. Was wondering if anyone knew if granite falls area along the mountain loop was a good area. Have a family cabin out that way and thought it would be a good area. Any ideas on a location near seattle-granite or around for small game would be a huge thanks.

Here is a starting point. I would recommend getting into rabbits and grouse above squirrels.

Anywhere in the cascades will hold grouse. Hit abandon logging road with multiple age cuts/timber or if you like to hike take a trail around the tree line and hit standing tree clusters in semi open basins and ridges.

If you want to get an idea of the population in an area you want to hunt go out and look for them in the spring time May/June they are mating and the males are Hooting up a storm... They also havent been target practice so most of the time you can drive or walk right up to them during mating season.

Thanks for the info. Will have to walk around some of the old logging trails along the mountain loop and look around.
