Big chunk of beaver and some castor ( from said beaver ) above the cage  a little eye attractor like a wing or something that flutters in the breeze even a CD  if you look close in a pic you'll see a plastic grocery bag that had the bait in it hanging from a limb above just shred it and let it do its work

And I e also had pretty good luck when I'm getting low on beaver I'll put a whole muskrat in there and a beaver sholder or the head and it works too. I e never had any luck with bird or fish

Well caught another female and it was her lucky day she got a get outta jail for free card she was a pain to get out of the trap she just wanted to stay there. One of my other cages had cat tracks all around it and it was dumping snow !!!

Do you let all the females go?

NO! But I've caught a couple in this drainage already and her coloring wasn't the best she was really orange and not a lot of spotting so I figure I would rather let her go and breed and keep me trapping in the future in that area it might not make sense to some but it does me . When I start marten trapping next month all females are released no matter what same thought on them too

When I don't have beaver meat duck carcass is my 2nd choice, I'll agree that fish doesn't work.
Nice catches

Just curious how do you know this was a female? Are you allowed to keep females? Awesome work!

Ok good thinking. I am new to the trapping scene, I still have to take the class but I am stoked following all these trapping threads.

Well first is just looking at the cat you can tell if they're older they are just bigger and beefier when it's a tom.You can just tell this cat was a female she was tricky and she was not happy so it's kinda of a cat and mouse game picking up the cage and getting them to back up against the cage with their tail in a position to see if there is some berries or not

I've never used duck I tried grouse that I had boned out the breasts and used the scraps but I always go to the beaver meat it's got a strong smell and nice and bloody
