I've tried several different binocular carrying systems and, over the years, the best two that I've come up with are the S4 Lockdown System (I've noticed no difference in comfort between the old single strap down the back and the newer "X-style") and the FHF Gear Binocular carrying system. I now own both.
I have a pair of binoculars that I saved long and hard for (they nearly caused my wife apoplexy when she found out what they cost) and I don't want them damaged when I'm out falling or dropping things - which, for me, is a daily part of hunting. What I've found is that, if it's going to be a clear day, the S4 is the rig I use. It's tough, easy to use, comfortable, not bulky, and reasonably priced. It does not, however, completely enclose your binos. Still, they do the job and do it well.
If it's windy (and, hence, dusty), raining, or snowing, I use the FHF system which completely encloses your binos. Again, tough, comfortable, easy to use, not as bulky as others out there, but a bit more expensive (here, remember how much you spent on your binos and just go ahead with your purchase). Note: I'm a bit of a gear addict, so you'd probably only need one of the above systems
As in all things, opinions are like your backside - everyone has one and some of them stink. Other responders will probably point you to other systems and you'll have to decide on your own as to what works best for you and your budget. This will be my 39th year hunting (and trying to find the perfect gear) and these are the two best systems that I've found that can stand up to what I put them through and still work for me.
Hope this helps a bit.

PS...The owner of FHF Gear is a great guy to talk with. It's still a small company and he knows what he's about. Give him a call if need be.
