Its not in this years regs but I have seen them in past years regs. Is it possible for a county to ban hunting them? As I rember it was illegalin all of the san juans. I had permission to hunt a place beut never went because that is what I wanted to shoot.

I did a little research and found that there are firearms restrictions in all San Juan County. You cannot use a center fire or rim fire rifle. Could this possibly be the reason you were told that?
You could use a shotgun but what I saw it looks like you would need to carry written permission from the property owner to discharge a weapon.
Be nice if there was a resident that could chime in.
It's been closed on San Juan Island since I have lived here, almost ten years. I think it is closed on the others (where it might be found, none here though) as well. I sure can't find any references though for the current regulations.
