Foxes washington

So I know there has been a decreased amount of foxes due to coyotes increasing in numbers but are there any places in Washington you can hunt foxes? Just curious cause I know the regs say all national forests are closed....does this mean you can hunt DNR land or is that national forest as well? Had a dream I shot one of those beautiful creatures now I wanna make it a reality.

So everything else is open to fox hunting, as I understand it, and I would shoot a fox anywhere other than these areas.  Unless the areas had other restrictions for hunting in general, that might apply.

Or even Point Defiance park... Somebody shot one with a pellet gun a few years back... There was an article in the paper...

I would do the same.  As much as im all for thinning out yotes, cougs, bears and wolves, i really dont have any desire to kill a fox.  Never seen one on the east side.  Only ever seen two red foxes, both on the west side.  Theyre neat critters and i dont see them as any substantial threat to big game populations.  If i ever call one in the only thing ill shoot it with is my camera.  That being said, if op wants to shoot one, more power to him.  Not bashing anybody for shooting them.

About 4 years back we had a silver colored fox on the property. We saw something out in with the cows, thought it might be a yote so we grabbed the guns and went out in the field. It was winter and snow covered the ground. By the time we got to the location we saw it, it was gone. A few days later we saw it again, but we were ready, and it was much closer. Close enough to notice it was a funny looking yote. It started walking towards the road where we were and finally figured out it was a fox. When it saw us it took off for the aluminum mainline we pile up during the winter. It ran and tried to hide inside of them. We jumped on the pipes to scare it off, then fired a couple of rounds towards it. We had no intentions of shooting it, just wanted to run it off the property.

Have never seen another since. The old man says he has never seen one before this either.

There used to be a pair living in Saltwater State Park in Des Moines (Wa). One of them got hit by a car and no one ever saw the other one again.

I have seen them on dnr land off the 410 corridor.

@wolftrapper with that being said what does this mean? About where to hunt them I'm a east side boy so all I know is Wenatchee national forest...DNR ?

I called one in in Cowiche once , but let him walk. Saw another a couple years later in the same area while enjoying lunch while Jeeping. That one got lucky I couldn't get to the AR fast enough.

Ive gotten five, my dad has gotten two, and Ive called one in for my buddy and brother each. All in southeast Washington. I havnt seen any this year yet, but had one on trail camera.  Called a good looking red one in last year but he disappeared before I could shoot. They are a very cool animal to call in and hunt!

I'm not the one you asked, but.....

National forests are NOT DNR.

National Forests are FEDERAL.

DNR is STATE.

I've called in and killed one.   I see a couple every year.  Usually on the road and at night.  Eastern Washington.    We have a couple black cascade foc down here in elk country, but I haven't seen them when I had a camera in my hand.

I worked out there last summer and saw quite a few multi colored ones.

The only other times I've seen them was in the NF lands of the Blues, and North Cadcades, both were true red foxes.

Only fox I have seen in WA was out at the tank farm up at the refinery in Ferndale when I worked out there years ago, operator used to feed it. But OH how I would love to get one!

I did a little research and found that there are firearms restrictions in all San Juan County. You cannot use a center fire or rim fire rifle. Could this possibly be the reason you were told that?
You could use a shotgun but what I saw it looks like you would need to carry written permission from the property owner to discharge a weapon.
Be nice if there was a resident that could chime in.

i have seen them in Thurston Lewis and grant county ,and i called one in by north bend in king county , a couple of years ago

Saw several on 507 near the South end of McIntosh through the years.  they all looked like true reds.  Also have seen several up in the Winston that where the grey Cascades.

It's been closed on San Juan Island since I have lived here, almost ten years.  I think it is closed on the others (where it might be found, none here though) as well.  I sure can't find any references though for the current regulations.
