Any dead animal you can find.  No you can not pick up road kill legally for bait.  Just a FYI.  Hit your local butcher shop up for some bones, and convienance store or restraunt for grease.  Any live stock in your area?  They will let you haul off the dead ones, and even load them in your PU for the cows and horses.

Cattle carcasses are the #1 choice for me.  If you don't have access to carcasses, call a slaughter truck or butcher for heads and scraps.  Cabela's sells a gutpile in a bag online.  I haven't tried them yet but am going to get some the next time place an order.

I forgot to tell you.  Set it up so that you can sneak in on it totally.  They are smart buggers, and don't wack one then run right out if there are others.  Also don't shoot at the runners unless you know you will kill him.  The spook at the shot but it is instinct mainly, but if you chase them with bullets they won't come back.

:yeah:
It can take a couple of days sometimes (depending on human activity in the area) for the coyotes to start showing up regularly.  Do not get near the bait or chase them off of it or they will only come around at night.  The key is to sneak in and sneak out as quietly as possible.  Also, set up as far away downwind as you can and still have a good, comfortable shot.
