Mason Lake
« on: January 11, 2016, 12:00:40 PM »
My inlaws just bought a cabin on Mason Lake (the one by Shelton, not the one in Snoqualmie). Anyone have any experience/tips for fishing this lake?

Thanks guys

Not sure if you've seen this already.

Do you have a small boat?  Kokanees and Largemouth Bass I think are better targeted with a boat--one for trolling and the other for getting to structure.

I did read that. It says the lake isn't stocked with rainbows, but other bits and pieces I've found on the web say that they are in there.

The place did come with a banged up rowboat I'm going to use for it. I'm sure my FIL will get a ski boat for the cabin, but if it's like any of his other boats, he'll keep it cleaner than an operating room.

My brother in law also has a cabin on mason lake and I've seen his 10 yr old boy catch a 18" rainbow off his dock using worms on the bottom. Their in there.

There are some good trout for sure.  Lot of yellow perch too, lot of fun for kids to catch.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm guessing the trout in the lake must be native.

Anyone have any experience using an electric trolling motor as primary power? I'll have to take another look at this boat, but from what I saw, it's your very standard, aluminum utility boat, maybe 8 or 10 feet. Do you think a minn kota could push this thing around a 1000 acre lake for a few hours?

It could, distance you travel will have a lot more to do with battery than trolling motor.  :twocents:

If you have a way to transport that little boat, do yourself a favor and take it over to Spencer Lake. Spencer is a short distance from Mason Lk and usually has pretty decent fishing.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

there is really good fishing on the lake many options, you can use downriggers out deep for cutthroat, anchor up for perch, then there's lots of ways to catch rainbows. One problem is the milfoil up there some places its very tall in there, they poison it few times a year. I am up there working for atleast four months  a year all over the lake (building docks and driving piling) and have learned a lot of spots for all kinds of fish. if you want a little more specific pm me when your heading out.

Thanks man, that would be great. You might have built the dock there, it looks fairly new. I was only there for a few hours last weekend, and we were working, so I didn't get much of a chance to check things out.

Tell me about it. I lost a couple AK's and a whole bunch of hi-cap mags that very way!
