Chocolate Lab pup
« on: January 26, 2009, 01:29:06 PM »
I have a chance to get an 11 week old Chocolate Lab female.  She is the last of a litter of akc labs and the lady has her parents and other siblings.  I want her as a pet first and a retriever second.  Here is the picture the lady sent to me, it's the lighter one on the left. The other pic is her parents. She is asking only 75 bucks.    Thoughts?

If I didnt already have 2 labs and 2 mini dachshunds, I would be all over one of them.  :twocents:

Do it!  I would've regretted not picking up my GSP that was advertised on here.  I had always wanted one and the price was really good.

Hide your shoes. I have a 16 month old Chocolate lab that has eaten several pairs of my leather shoes.  He won't eat my wifes, but he does take a like to mine.

All litters must be registered with AKC. They will have puppy registration papers with the AKC logo on them showing the sire and dam's registration number and the new litters registration number for each pup whelped. For $75 I wouldn't worry about the papers. Most well bred labs with AKC registration sell for minimum $400. Sometimes you get a deal other times you might really be getting a "deal". For a pet you will have for over 10 years, it might be a better idea to pay a little more up front and get a breeder with guarantees that your pup won't have inheritable diseases/conditions and that the pup has been cared for properly from the start.

You can't tell if a pup has bad hips until they are at minimum 2 years old. By then, you will probably be pretty commited to your furry buddy.....

Got our papered Chocolate for $100.00 ( from Friends ) and it was the best 100 we've ever spent on hunting expenses. Just because you don't spend 5 or 6 hundred does not mean you won't have a good dog. I would check papers if they are available and ask about bad health in thier lines. The last thing you want is to have a dog with bad hips or worse in a year or so after you're well attached. So I would say do it!

I say do it.  For $75, I wouldn't care about papers.  I once had a yellow lab I got from the Pullman animal shelter right before I graduated, for $25.  That dog was a great hunter and gerat companion for 14 years.  If I had the time for 2 puppies, I'd jump on it myself.

The lady has the akc papers and both parents papers, she pre-sold the rest of the litter for $400 but since they were born has not had any other takers so she is keeping one and selling the other for the price of the shots etc she has into it.  I have contacted other buyers who are very happy with the pups they got from her so... it might just be worth it!  I'll post pictures tomorrow night if I get it.

thanks
