I'm ready, I've spent about 40 days scouting and I hope it pays off. I killed a spike bull in archery season so a nice buck will hopefully overflow the freezer.

I know I am ready and excited. I havent scouted for deer yet, but no matter, I am going the whole season anyway. My little bro got a spike elk this year too (i missed one..stupid branch, but boy did I kill that branch!..
so if we get a few deer in camp, should be a good freezer year...so far this year the fam has bagged 1 bear, 1 spike (and I have had to help pack them both out..with a serving of humble pie, lousy younger siblings!)...I have hopes to fill some more tags. Good luck to all, of course.

I am stoked, although it will be atough year for me. i have 3 days to hunt and will hunt like it's the last 3 days i have of my life, which may end up being the case as my daughter was born 2 weeks ago.
i have had no ability to scout, no time, but know the area we will be hunting like the back of my hand. i didn't kill a deer last year because i was holding out for a big one i found pre-season, and he never surfaced, so it may be meat-buck or bust for me, cuz i miss the lack of venison in the freezer...we shall see. come the afternoon of day 2, i think i'll be shooting the first legal deer i see, but i will wait for the first day and a half looking for a nice one, whitetail or muley, i'm not picky.

there was a couple of big bodied young two poin muleys in my area last ther that i stalked for 2 hours hoping they'd grow that third point
. but i expect theyll be back this year as 3 and 4 pointers. we've got time and driving arrangements already set up and we're gonnna try and stop by rufus woods to do a lil fishin along the way.

I'm hoping the "potential" buck is still around.

he didn't get shot last year as far as i know, and there is no late mule deer season where he was.

second the 'whole week off' fever! i can't wait to get the hell outa dodge for a 10 days.... i'll be lookin for that 22" 2 year old 3 point i saw twice last year, im hoping my good karma for letting him grow up will pay off! i hunt up around 5500-6000 feet so im watchin this crazy early wintery weather very closely! an early migration means money for me! i haven't hunted snow in the general season for years.... last time we got a big early snow i shot a 170 class buck and saw at least 50 other bucks in 3 or 4 days. (snow level is down to 4000k for most of next week with lots o' precip. in the forcast) good luck to everyone not going crazy, im off to joes to go buy more random items i don't need.

This years opener is like a bonus. I will get to go out without any pressure on me and just enjoy the time in the field.

i am never excited to hunt the late whitey season because that would mean i missed out on a muley buck.... but after the last sunday of the general muley season im the biggest fan of that last white tail hunt! funny how that works...

i passed on the opener this year as my brother (bcrawford) drew a idaho moose tag. we have been talking since we were little about hunting moose together and now we get that chance and we are bringing dad along with us. i am looking forward to the camp time with them as much as i am with the hunting part. best of luck to you all and save me one for the last weekend of muley season.
