Potholes
« on: February 19, 2016, 07:43:36 PM »
Tried potholes today for the third time this week. I have only caught one walleye out of the last three days and I have used a mixture of trolling jigging and using blade baits. I am fairly new at walleye fishing so I'm still getting the hang of it. Today I Went out through the waves to troll the bumps by Crabcreek until the waves picked up and started white capping. On my way back my motor quit in the middle of the lake and I had  waves coming over the starboard side like crazy, luckily I had my Minnkota to drag me to shore so I could solve my outboard issue. I just kept cranking it and pumping the fuel bulb until it started up, it took about  20 minutes to turn over and stay over so I'd have no idea what was wrong but I am thankful I got that squared away and was able to make it back towards the launch where I decided to then fish Lin coulee where the water was flat and wind scarce. Trolled at about 45 to 20 feet with no success for an hour until a massive wind storm forced me off the lake. I hope other people are having better success!

Sounds to me like you're building some good memories to pass on to kids and grandkids.

Worst part is when I jumped out of the boat quickly to stop the Minnkota from scraping on the ground and I slipped on a big rock and went in up to my head. I now know why they make belts to tie around your waders..  :yike:

check your fuel fittings/lines for cracks or leaks.  kind of sounds like you might be sucking air and running the carb out of gas.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

That's what I thought, when I got to shore I noticed the connection to the gas tank was loose so in wondering if it just sucked air up into the carb. Definitely gets your heart racing when it's out in the middle of the lake though.

If I can convince myself to get up tomorrow before school I'll be out there. Never tried in front of the state park so I think I'll try that.
