Yamaha outboard help
«
on:
March 01, 2016, 02:49:06 PM »
I picked up an older(95) 250 hp vmax
I've been aboard with this motor running and its a beast
Owner said it wasn't running right on its last trip out (thinking fuel system)
Hasn't been run in 6 years since then
What should I do
It was stored properly and cranked with lube annually
Go it super cheap
Fuel lines?
Carbs?
Water pump?

The vast majority of 2 stroke issues are fuel. Change the fuel filter get rid of all the old gas, give it fresh 92 octane and mix a little Yamaha "Ring Free" and see how she does before spending a ton on money

I will add only run non ethanol fuel in it if you can. Was the fuel tank plastic, metal or fiberglass. If fiberglass, ethanol will dissolve the resin and varnish the carbs. I would clean out the entire fuel system including carbs before you even attempt to crank it over just to be on the safe side since it has been sitting for so long.
