If you can find a new Hoyt or Bowtech for under $1000 good luck.  Unless you look at their low line stuff or is a couple years old.  I shoot a Bowtech Prodigy and it is a awesome bow.  Cheapest I have found one $1100.  I would hate to rep another forum but Archery talk has a classified section with lots of bows at really good prices.   I agree though with going to a pro shop and shorting lots of bows.  If you by from a box store don't have them set it up for you.  Like Cabelas or Bass Pro.

Don't get caught up in many of the overpriced bow manufacturers (big names).  There are a lot of very good bows out there that have a great warranty and perform just as well.

I've had two bows with full synthetic risers (an old Diamond, and a new Bowtech).  I will never buy one without.  They are extremely lightweight and the new Bowtech carbon bows are fast, very easily adjustable and have "speed" and "comfort" cam inserts, which significantly changes the draw profile and a lot more reasonable than Hoyt.

I bought a slightly used Bowtech Carbon Overdrive off EBay about 2 years ago for $500.00. You can easily find a good bow all set up for $1000.00.
