I'm going to pick one up tonight, do you just plug the SD card in and go or is there more involved?

There are a couple of options. You can get the chip and plug it in (99.00). You can get a down load for the GPS (99.00). You can get a down load for Garmin Basecamp (99.00) which will also load into your GPS(110.00 total for both). Or, get the downloaded app for your smart phone. This was free with an RMEF membership but not sure about the cost now. Remember for the phone that you have to save maps into memory or it won't work out of cell range.

I will assume you have a Garmin unit...The most you may have to do is:
1) Insert chip
2) Turn on
3) Select Menu
4) Select Setup
5) Select Map
6) Verify that the Hunt_WA Map is Enabled
7) Enjoy

If you want the best experience you should download the Garmin's free software called Basecamp. That way you can view OnX maps and do all your planning with your computer versus the tiny GPS screen.

Probably the best $100 you ever spend!
