drew a spring bear permit for the copalis unit
« on: March 19, 2016, 09:14:07 AM »
i got in the mail yesterday saying i was drawn for a spring bear permit. drew the permit with two point's. it was for the copalis unit. may not be the best unit but im happy i was drawn for a tag. im on a roll  the last two permits i put in for ive been drawn for. first i got drawn for a muzzy cow tag. and now a bear permit. my son was excited. ive hunted bears during general season but never during the spring. hopefully the with some luck and hard work i may notch this tag! takeing out the 300 ultra mag to mag sure she is still on target. if any one has any pointer's for the area please pm me. im a 10 year military veteran. the last year has been tough. look's as my luck may be changing. know the area some so this will help a little. good luck to all other's who were drawn. thank's

That hunt and i believe kapowsin, are specifically to help timber companies that have problems with bears peeling trees.  If the whole purpose of those permits is to protect their profits its ridiculous that they are charging people to use the permits.  You have to pay them to help them?  Thats b.s.

If any of you that drew the tag want some company and another set of eyes, I don't live far from the unit and would love to get out and try to glass up some bears with you.

WDFW work with the timber companies to give us opportunity and part of the deal is they can charge for access. Hunters, under the current rules, can not and will not be able to harvest enough bears to significantly reduce the problem.

Allowing us to hunt is almost more problematic and time consuming for them. It would most certainly be easier for them to utilize their own damage control options (hounds/feeding) to manage the situation rather than go through all of the papework/permit process to allow a bunch of hunters on their land.
