are you running downriggers?

hoochies and flashers have always worked for us.

as close to the bottom as you can be. you should be having to adjust the depth of your wire regularly to stay on the bottom.

We will be running downriggers. So far I bought some Matrix minnows, ace high flies and some squid. Hope I am not too far off track. I will look into the "hoochies".

cut plug, atomics, and apex use to work great for the winter blackmouth..
but all and all it is tough to beat the flasher/squid also

hoochies are squids. same difference.

green and white, blue and white or any combination of those.

watch out for sea lions. they will eat your fish faster than you can get them in the boat. no light gear...get them in the boat and in the cooler or the seals will get them.

They will take the fish right off the line? That sucks. Thanks for the info.

I seem to do my best with Blackmouth while using a Flasher & Squid in Purple Haze or some kind of green combination. I also run about 36"-40" of 40lb leader between Flasher & Squid.

I don't know about the atomics but I agree on the apex lures. The are a simple plastic that has great action through the water. The setup comes with a leader/hook rig which works very well. I have also tried a double hook set up and some other experimental rigs (Check Regulations). You can't go wrong with the flasher and hoochie, Blue, Purple, Green, White, whatever works for you is the color you should run.

Go get em'!

I like flasher and spoon combos for blackmouth.  Hootchies work well though as well.  This is my favorite blackmouth set up...

11" or 8" Green Glow flasher
30" of 20# test
green or blue splatterback Sonic Edge spoons
or
green or blue splatterback Coho Killer spoons
or
either of the two above style spoons in double glow or Army Truck

Lather them up in Herring glow Smelly Jelly and run those downrigger balls just off the bottom.  You should be banging into the bottom occasionally.  I seem to do best between 90 adn 160 feet off the points.

Find the bait, find the Blackmouth.

Here is a 30.4  pounder caught on my boat the day before the salmon derby , would have won 17,000 bucks . Hoochie & flasher .

Thanks for all your help. Went to the local fishing shop and stocked up on most of what was posted here. I must say, you can spend a lot of cash before you know it. Thanks again.
