A few Cougar hunting questions

This weekend I plan on going to an area where I know some timber surveyors spotted a big kitty while they were working 2-3 weeks ago. The problem is, I only know the general area where they saw it, but the area isn't that big overall. So, I guess my questions are;

1) How far can I expect a Cougar to come in if I only know the general area where it was seen?

2) The area is behind a locked gate with a small road system and most of the roads are overgrown with grass. Should I set up off in the timber, in a very tight clearing that I know is back in the area, or should I utilize the roads?

3) How long should my stand be? I plan on using a calling sequence with my Foxpro like Rick mentioned in the other thread (quoted below)...

when i cougar call i start out with a woodpecker sound for 10 minute's or so. rustle up the bird's and maybe a bobcat quick. then i play goat in distress for 10 to 15 minute's. then cougar in heat for 2 to 3 minute's. then back to goat in distress.

4) What time of day is best? Right at daylight, or maybe an hour or two into the day?

Good luck. . .I would love to get a coug and a bobbie. . .heck I haven't even managed to call a yote into sight yet!!! I was happy with the crow I got today!!!

40 minute's to a hour. hour  is better but that would be for a bigger calling area. if there is a intersection or four way use it. i like timber get your best advantage of the area. all day dong doesnt matter. but daylight and dusk animal move more that's why it's better there coming or going to there area's. Joel keep at it you will get a predator. once you do you will be hooked. Rick

1.) They'll come in as far as they can hear you... if they feel like it, and they'll go as fast or as slow as they feel like. They're cats! They do what they please!

2.) Don't try to make then come into the open. That rarely happens. Keep them in a place where they're comfortable. It's hard here, it's so thick. But calling them into the open is tough. They'll hang up in the edge and sit there for hours to pick you out. You'll never see them.

3.) If I'm pretty sure I'm in a good spot I'll do 90 mins or more.

4.) What Rick said is true about AM/PM, but anytime during the day is as good as any other, really. Getting close to them is much more important.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to give it a shot on Sunday. Tomorrow I'm going to head out yote hunting where I saw quite a few tracks in the last snow.
