Looking for a seamstress near North Bend or on the eastside.

I have a SG 5100 pack that I would like to do a few modes too, nothing major, just an ice axe loop and maybe add a zippered pouch in the lid. Any recommendations of who might be able to handle this in my area?

For that kind of work, any place should be able to do it as long as they (or you) can supply good materials.  100% polyester thread and 500D Nylon Cordura fabric is the ticket

Not directly an answer because of location. If you don't mind shipping, Laurie Cantonwine in Vancouver does good work on outdoor gear.  Used to do all of REI's work until they wanted a store front (she works from home).  She's done several jobs for me (including a stove jack and vent covers in my silnylon tent and a better closing mechanism on my AGC bino pack) and for others I've referred to her. Her work is very good quality.  The new closer on my AGC looks like it came from the factory. I'd trust her with my Kifaru.

Otherwise, you might try Specialty Outdoors in Spokane. Don't know their work.

By yourself some carpet thread and a strong needle and have at it! It is a lot easier then you think.
I have modified all my packs this way. Some just a "D" ring with strap. A "D" clip shoulder attach point for my GPS. I added a meat flap/seat flap with cinch buckles on one. My X2, I put an upper rifle sinch strap so I could put my rifle butt in the side pocket and sinch down the barrel so I could have "hands free" when I needed, or on the hike out in dark. A knife attach point, and a leather man attach point. I use the smaller Zip Ties as a Molle attach Tie allot as well. They work great in a "X" pattern on Molle loops.

Putting in a zipper is really easy depending on the fabric. Go to your local fabric store and they should be able to help you pick out the neccessary suplies needed to do the modifications you want done. Ask the old ladies in there, I have found that they like to share their knowledge.

Every guy should know the basics of sewing. It comes in handy.

If you get stuck on the project, I 2nd finding Mormons. I have had some very good work done by the females in the Mormon households.

Your probably right, I should just do it myself but I have concerns about my work/modification and the bottom of the pack falling apart because I screwed something up. Hmmm

Look up McHales Packs. The guy builds some rock solid packs and he has a great reputation. I don't know if he does alterations/repairs but worth a look. I believe he is local.
