The memories are 26 years old, but I recognized Queenstown and Milford Sound before reading the post.  I love NZ, and the people could not be any finer.

Queenstown is one of the best cities in NZ. I hope you have a rental car, just drive careful at first? If you get a chance try the paragliding off the mountain above town, the bungy jumping up the river from town, and go to Fox Glacier on the west coast and take a helicopter ride up over the glaciers of the southern alps. There is a pilot (chopper) along the highway just south of Fox Glacier, his name is James Scott, one of the best chopper pilots in the world. If you have a chance go north to Waimate and get permission from some landowners to shoot possums and wallaby's, some of the best fun to be had in NZ.

Thanks for the info bear paw! I don't think paragliding or bungee jumping is up my alley. I like to keep my feet firmly planted on or near the ground! 
There is so much more we would like to have done while in queenstown but had to limit ourselves due to money and time. We did see some beautiful areas of the southern alps on the bus cruise to Milford sound. Wanted to go on a jet boat ride up the rivers but decided on other things instead. One last day in queenstown today we will spend hiking and riding up the gondola. Then off to Christchurch for a day. After Christchurch we will head out to the hunt! Were hoping to be able to add a few hours of fishing for brown trout and a night of small game hunting while there.

We were thinking of renting a car, but the taxi ride from the airport to our hotel when we got here cleared that right up. I'm pretty sure everyone here would hate me if I was on the roads driving.

Be sure to look off the bridges in Christchurch - big brown trout everywhere.
