Scouting with someone you don't know that well can be interesting....You don't want to share your good spots, so it is a chance to explore new areas.

Go behind the Gates, However from what I have heard all the gates get opened up for Rifle so it might be harder to find closed ones :-)
They definitely go into hiding after all the pressure. Even during archery they start to disappear and reappear on private "no acess in a million years" property. "Those are my elk you can not hunt them". Was the theme many times when I was trying to gain access.Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
