BULL PERMITS
« on: May 12, 2016, 07:26:41 PM »
since this state is so hard to draw  In the past I hunted eastern rifle was confident I could harvest a bull if drawn   Last few years have been archery elk  but now not confident I could get a quality elk with the bow   since we cant practice on them lol    not sure if this makes sense  curious to what people would do  apply anyways  or just do point options?  or hire a guide to help in harvesting a quality bull?   thanks for any imput

I battle with the decision every year as to what quality hunts I want to put in for and how that affects my regular season if I don't draw. Tough call
Go hawks

If I were you, which I am not..if I would happen to draw a eastside quality bull tag I would take as much time as possible off of work to try and fill the tag.  It comes down to time, the more time in the woods the better chance of killing a bull.

Agreed. My brother and I had quality bull tags last year. He filled his tag on day 18, I filled mine on day 20. Make sure you have plenty of time off if you draw.

What quality tags did you draw that have you 20 days?

Its tough since never calling in a bull for archery can I risk losing my points over a archery bull     not sure how hard it would be to call them in on eastern Washington public land during the season they give us   man tough decisions   ugg

Archery. And the hunt was 21 days. But on the other hand I had a quality tag once that was only 5 days. The 5 day hunt I killed a bull on day 4. Was a tough hunt with the heat and short season.

I'm not a very good archery elk hunter compared to rifle but my brother wanted to do the partner thing and it was better odds. So we applied archery and got the tags.

Not gonna lie it was tough. We had a stud bull 53 yards broadside. My brother releases and hits a limb midway to the bull he didn't see and his arrow does a straight nose dive into the dirt.

My buddy called in a bull after chasing the herd 3-4 miles up and down some canyons. It turns broadside at 16 yards with its head behind a root wad. I start to draw and just couldn't get it back. Hadn't eaten anything or drank anything all day. The bull turns back down the hill and right when I get drawn back he clears out of there.

But we also got to hunt the rut with screaming bulls, fighting bulls, and a long season. If you have a buddy that's a decent elk hunter that would be a huge benefit.
