youth quality points
« on: May 15, 2016, 04:07:11 PM »
Is it possible to buy a youth quality elk point without buying the tag? I am hoping to get a point for my son but hate to donate the extra money to the state. I know it's not much but just the fact of paying extra for a point when there is no plan of hunting elk here in Wa.

Quality and Youth are separate categories. If he has a hunting license he can purchase a point in each category.

And an elk tag. You can apply for the point option for OIL tags without a tag, but you have to have a tag to apply for deer or elk, including point only options

Thanks. Sucks to have to buy a tag to apply for a youth.

Youth get a reduced rate on tags and permits. Deer and Elk for youth is $40.50 and youth permit apps are $3.80 each.

But don't forget! You can put in for a point for youth multi season even if they don't have a hunting license as well. They just need a wild-ID number.

I think a valid point is Maybe that a lot of us would be supporting our kids tags with our time off in stead of pursing our own seasons if they competed with each other.  I know I would.  I don't see much of an advantage for my kids with the permits that are available.   I would still put in for my permits, but would not be able to take the time off for them if drawn.   Maybe if the time. Slots were staggered a bit they might have a chance of filling the permit.

Youth can apply in all categories in which they are eligible. My son has drawn several permits in non-youth categories.

You can also collect a point by using a SSN#, not even needing a wild ID. This just came up the other day in our hunters Ed class.

Youth permits are some of the best around when you factor the quality and odds.  Get them started early and the chances of drawing an excellent elk or deer tag are huge.

I understand that they can draw in similar categories, but like I stated, I would like to see more permits that aren't in the general season.  Possibly later.  Not hard to understand.
