Boots? Hiking Shoe? Inbetween?
« on: May 20, 2016, 11:35:04 AM »
Howdy guys,

I am trying to figure out a footwear issue. I am looking for a midweight hiking/hunting boot. I currently own a pair of Danner Mountain Assaults which I love to death on chukar hunts or any real sidehilling, steep situation, but man they can get heavy when im just scouting for deer or on a foraging trip.

What is a midweight footwear choice that will protect my feet, but not weigh 4lbs each. Most my time is spent hunting upland but I want something less rigid and lighter for archery hunting.

REI is having a decent sale on footwear. Anything worthy in the Keen or Merrel lines?

Gracias.

Oh and BTW the morels are popping big time to those in the know!

Salomon is a part of that sale as well.

They have an AWESOME pair. Kind of a cross between a hiking boot and a trail runner (gtx something or other).

I have been wearing the salomon 4d and cannot say enough good things about it!
For Pete's sake...pick up your feet, man!

I have been running the keen targhee and targhee II. They are a mid height hiking boot, I use them as my ever day shoe on the ranch and early season hunts. I think they would fit the bill for ya.

I think that was something else to mention, I want to wear these pretty much every day. I'm a butcher and literally only wear crocs out of the house and I'm tired of the woman making fun of me! I'll check those out guys thank you

I really like the salewa approach shoes. They have vibram soles and quite durable.

Check out adidas outdoor line, theres lots of different terrex versions but so far I've been impressed...the traction is pretty cool...super light weight

I've had two pairs this last year and you can always find a sale it seems

Ended up going with Merrell Moab water proof mids. Lite, and super comfortable. Thanks for all the recommendations. Time to start burning some calories so I'm not a total slug come sept
