Mule Deer Sheds 170"+ B&C.
« on: September 02, 2007, 05:25:59 PM »
Bought this set of Mule Deer Sheds off of Ebay about 8 months ago.  They were found late so they were in Hard White Condition, not a whole lot of original color left on them!  Finnaly sat down last week and stained them.  Going to mount this set of sheds on a Mule Deer cape I got back from the tannery a month ago.  Just havn't decided on what form to mount this deer on.

  Having to wait on the blacktail sheds is killing me.

I have been on everyday.  Sometimes I don't have anything to say or someone says it for me.

What kind of stain do you use??? My dad has a great skull that was found, but the rack is bleached white and I would like to bring it back to life.

Sorry Billythekidrock I don't have any befor pictures.  They were pretty white befor I started the process.

I used MinWax stain.  The ones I used were Jacobean and Special Walnut,  I apply the lighter one first and wipe it off til I get the desired colors.  Than I let it dry for 24 hours or so.  After that I apply the darker color on the base of the antlers.  About 2/3 the way up to the "Y".  Keep it off the tip of the brow tines and the bumps around the base.  Gives it that rubbed polished look.
