All I have to show for it is a handful of fur :bash:  35 yards is a pretty longshot for a pistol though, Im kinda glad I didnt hit him especially in the head, with those hydroshoks there would have been not mount, some Im glad I missed for that reason.  Dam house cats anyways, maybe next time Ill get the neighbors poodle dog who keeps *censored*ting on my front porch and newspaper the other day. :dunno:

I think it was pretty obvious to him that it was a furbearing varmint that he was shooting at. . .

. . .just my  :twocents:

. . .and yeah you were pretty close, especially for using an iron sighted handgun. . .how far away was he when you shot at him. . .kinda hard to tell from the video because it looks like you were in a railroad right of way and there was at least one dip between you and him that you couldn't see from the video until you got up and walked over there. . .

35 yards, and ya I was on the opposite side of the railroad tracks.  We have killed several coyotes in the same spot, last one with the bow.  This weekend Im putting up a tree stand and going to start hunting it from a stand, since its so brushy I fiqure this will up my odds.  Never even heard him approaching all of a sudden there he was, he was pretty hard to see, he never gave me a side profile, It just look like a yote in the heat of the moment.

I think that a tree stand would be a great way to hunt coyotes and bobbies over here on the West side!!!

You'd have to have a remote E-caller to make it work the best but I think that being up above the ground would make it easier to go in after the *censored*s (which is pretty much what I'm thinking that I'm gonna have to do to get one over here on the wet side), gets you out of their normal sight plane, especially since they should be concentrating on the calls coming from ground level, and as a bonus it should open up your field of view. . .might wanna take some pruners with you though. . .plus I don't think you would have to worry about anything sneaking up behind you then either!!!

I say give it a try. . .I've never used a tree stand. . .go figure I'm from Southern Illinois the land of tree stands and I haven't used  one. . .I always used ground blinds. . .so I'm not sure how those climbing tree stands work, but for public land I'm guessing that would be the way to go so that you can take it with you every time. . .

I'd spend some more time out there looking.  My son and I tracked down a coyote a couple years ago that didn't bleed at all for the first 75 yards.  He hit it high, and too far back with his 17 Remington.  Little entrance and no exit.  One little tuft of fur, just like your video.  It only went about a 150 yards total, but it took us over an hour and a half on our hands and knees looking for more strands of hair, and disturbed leaves, sticks etc, to find it.  It didn't leave much of a trail.  Only found two drops of blood.  Out of all the coyotes, we've always remembered that one.

Tree stands.....I think you guys might be on to something there!

That cat wasn't giving you much to shoot at.  Nice to see that video of the shot.  Almost got him, better luck next time.
