mill creek watershed.... at 77yrs old!!
« on: June 12, 2016, 12:43:42 PM »
After checking the results every 15 seconds after we submitted our application, there I was headed for the losers lounge.  Bull elk results first(which it thought my dad and I with 15 points had a real shot of drawing).  Nothing.  With myself, my dad, my grandpa and my girlfriend all In  I hoped someone would get something.  We waited for the remainder of the results to come out and when they did I was out of the area moving cows and checked through my phone all the apps.  I handle all the applications so I usually have the numbers memorized.  Everyone struck out but I could not remember my grandpas will ID.  I called him and he went to find his license to get me the number...  Meanwhile I called all my hunting contacts all over to check theyre results and told them we had struck out.  The only thing he was in by himself was quality elk...

When he gave me the number he said he hoped he was lucky enough to not get drawn because hed never be ready to go.  Well sure enough...  SELECTED....  Mill Creek Watershed.

Now the fun begins.  This will be his 4th time in, last time in 2007 when we put in together.  This time will be even better because I don't have a tag so all I have to do is help him do whatever it take to kill a bull.  He has taken 2 spikes, one 6 point and a cow so far (one spike in the Shed).  He has always wanted to kill a really nice bull and I think he had given up on that ever happening.  Now I get the chance to try and return all of the favors and sacrafices he has made on my behalf, always worried about my success over his own.  Hes in better shape than any 60 year old person I know so I have faith in him to pull it off.  He works all day 7 days a week at the ranch so we just need to get in "shed" shape.  I'm looking forward to this hunt more than any hunt ive ever been on in my 31yrs.

Congratulations, it's great that you'll be able to help him. I've been in a similar situation and I think it was more rewarding than if I had been the one with a tag. Best of luck for a nice one!

He is tough and I have no doubts he will fill the tag. I was talking to a local that drew the tag also. Sounds like a couple good old timers have a shot to show the young guys how to do it. Wish him luck for me.
