Yakima North Youth tag
« on: June 13, 2016, 07:33:08 AM »
My son drew a Yakima North muzzy cow tag.  We just move here from North Carolina last summer and, even though I was able to get out and hunt archery last year on the West side, this will be our first year on the East side and first year for my son elk hunting.  He's super excited and we have made a few trips over to the area and hung some cameras on Saturday.  My question is this...in Naches, how deep do I need to get with him?  There aren't going to be many hunters, but I imagine there will be plenty of bodies in the unit scouting for modern.  We found a great little hole...lots of sign, water, food...it's all there, but it's also not very far from the road (500 feet, if that).

They can be all over those units including just off the road, you can run into a cow anywhere.  I believe that the first part of that hunt coincides with the general season so there will be lots of people the first few days, a lot of guys just cruzin the roads.  Look for the thick north slopes, they will hide in there when they are pressured or wait a few days until the general season is over and have it all to yourself as long as the roads hold up.

There's no general muzzy season or early archery for 346.  We should have it pretty much to ourselves except for other permits and the scouters.

The general rifle season is going then. Until the last week of the permit.  The last week was better for us but elk getting killed both weeks. Good luck to your boy!

I didn't catch the Muzzy part.  I have been in there that time of year, did real well in the thick north slopes and the edges of them.

Awesome.  We will start looking for some of those.  Would they still be up at higher elevations at that time?
