Youth antlerless elk permit in Nile, Bumping, and Bethel
« on: June 13, 2016, 12:05:25 PM »
My son drew a Youth antlerless elk permit for GMUs 352 (Nile), 356 (Bumping), and 360 (Bethel). The season is November 2-13, modern firearm. The general modern season for spikes in those GMUs runs October 29 – November 6.

In my youth I hunted the Bethel unit but, it’s been many years.  :chuckle:

If anyone is willing to share some information on where to focus our scouting efforts it would be appreciated.  Thank you.

I don't know those units but I can tell you my daughter had the youth Colockum cow tag last year.  We saw elk during the general season just couldn't get the gun up and a shot off before they high tailed it out of there.  The weekend after the general season when her tag was still good the elk had calmed down and it was way easier to get on them and get a quality shot.  I would plan on taking the 10th and 11th off through the weekend but my guess is you will get it done on Thursday or Friday.

This year Friday the 11th is Veterans day so your kid should have the day off of school.

Good luck.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

Bob I'm in there every year during deer. Early morning get to a draw you can see across and let the pumpkins push the animals to you.

Last year I saw atleast 10 cow elk pushed passed me each morning.

My experience is similar to Rainier10.  I would concentrate my time after general season.  The elk have settled down and the experience is much more enjoyable for a youth hunter.

Bob,

Don't know how to post pictures in pm's. This is the small draw where they were hanging out about an hour ago.

Bob I really wanted to help with this hunt and I know right where naches took that pic.  It would be safe and easy to get too I won't be as much help now but I could still point you where those elk were.

Adam, your dad would be proud of you and your willingness to help Bob at a time like this. I don't know you and I didn't know him but I am a father and I know I would be proud of my son.

 Still praying for your family,
Highside

I want to thank everyone who has provided information to me. My son and I will start hunting Friday and stay through the weekend if necessary.

I killed my first elk on Bethel Ridge many moons ago, and am hoping that my son can kill his first elk this weekend.
