High mountain lake question

What designates a high lake as a high lake? Does it have to be at or above a certain elevation? I ask because I was looking for a short hike I can take to a lake to do some fishing, but all I could come up with on a google search were high lakes. Which I dont think open until june, but Im having a hard time finding that info in the fishing regs.

Typically a high lake is defined as over 2500' west of the Cascade crest and over 3500' east of the Cascade crest.

Where did you read high lakes don't open until June?  That would be news to me.

just remember, if a lake is not named in the pamphlet it's a year round lake, regardless of the elevation.

I thought that as well, but a couple buddies told me they don't open till June 1st, so I've been looking at the regs and cant really find much info on it

In the buddy's defense, I believe in the past, 'high lakes' did open on the stream opener. It has probably been a few years, or decades...I can't really remember

If so, it has been quite a few decades because I don't ever remember that being the case.
