When I changed the sights on my ML I took the rear sights off, put the williams peep sight on and kept the original front sight on my ML.  It shoots great.  I'll try and get a picture of the sight on here ASAP.

two questions,   does anyone have a pic of a williams site mounted on their rifle?  Do you have to modify the front sight as in lifting or lowering to balance with the new rear sight?

thanks Pete

I'm not much of a photographer but here you are.  I had to remove the rear sight because it was in the way but I didn't have to change the front.

When I was a kid my Dad gave me a 30-30 and put a peep sight on it. He took out the insert and used it without one. I put one on my black diamond and did the same, you don't need that small hole to shoot well.

True.  I have a slightly larger eye hole than the one in that pic.  I still shoot really well and I can aquire my targets quicker.  It's all personnel preference though.

I was lucky if i could hit the paper with the sighs that came on my thompson center 25 yrs ago i put a williams peepsight on and also filed the front blade down real sharp on top i also put a merit adjustable insert in allowing to adjust small to large by turning the outside. i also put them on 2 of my handguns because your eye will automatically center. my eyes are not good enough to focus with open sights anymore.

colock,

which sight do you have on your gun?  thanks pete

http://www.williamsgunsight.com/gunsights/wgrs.htm

This is the exact sight that I have on my T/C Black Diamond XTR in .50 cal.
Just scroll down to the sight for what ever ML you have.  I hope this helps.  They are like $37.  As for installation all you need is a flat head screw driver.  Just remove the rear sight on your gun and then put your peep sight on your gun (obviously in the back)  There will be two little holes with threads on top of your gun. That's where it goes.  I kept my glow in the dark front sight and didn't do any mods or anything to my gun.  It shoots great.  Hope this helps.

colockumelk -

Can those sights be adjusted and marked with relative ease for longer shots?  I am hunting a place this fall where my shot will most likely be 100 to 135 yards.  I don't want to shoot beyond that, but can I adjust the rear sight easily in the "heat of the moment" to get on the vitals of a deer on a longer shot?  Is there a marking system or "click" system to reference different yardages?  I plan to use a rangefinder to get exact yardage before I squeeze one off.  Thanks a ton for the website you posted.  Jeff

Unfortunately no.  The only thing I did not like about those sights is instead of like on a scope where one click equals 1/4" MOA you just loosen a screw and move it up or down, left or right and just guess how far you have to move it.  It works but it just takes a bit longer.

As far as long shots here's what I did.  I sighted my gun in at 100yds.  I then shot at 125 yds, 150 yds, 175yds, and then 200yds.  I then made a mental note for how far my bullets dropped at certain distances.  For example at 150 yds my bullets dropped 4 inches.  This way all you have to do is when you range the deer at lets say 150 yds you know you have to hold 4 inches high.  It worked pretty well for me since I shot my deer this year at 165yds.

You might want to look into a Creedmoore Sight, the predecessor to the BDC reticle.

Anyone ever try one of these the ring looks nice and open but the front blade looks to thick hard to tell from a pic on the internet, sounds like it has good adjustments on the ring.

I took your advice and ordered a Williams peep sight today from Midway.
Now I have to call Williams and order the front sight. They should match (height, width, etc).
Gathering is easy. Hunting is a challenge.

Peeps are the most accurate iron sight to use as the human eye has a remarkable ability to center objects.  For older eyes they work well because you no longer have to spend as much effort (muscles, lens flex) to see the rear sight and get the bead in just the right place in the notch.  I remove the medium aperture in the morning when I might get a shot without enough light for the smaller peep.  The accuracy loss is made up by the fact that you would probably not see as far anyways.  For target shooting and working up loads, I use as small of an aperture as I can for accuracy.  The nice thing is that point of aim does not change as the center of the hole remains stationary no matter the size of the hole.  I use a medium aperture for hunting with plenty of light.  I will also remove the smaller aperture if I am in an area whre I am likely to jump something close.  Hope this helps anyone not sure about peeps.

I have the Williams on my Remington Model 700 ML and still have problems between open and peep sights.  I am looking at getting a tunnel sight to go with the peep.  I think these would be good for range or hunting application.
