Snake river deer hunt

So I apparently have a shot at hunting 14,000 acres of private ground that abuts the snake river. I have never hunted the snake, I hunted north of Waucstucna 12 years ago and had a nice time taking a mules and a whitetail.
I love open country glassing. Is this area primarily Muley ground or is it a mix? Does it get lots of pressure around the river canyons?
I will know hopefully next week what's going on!

Depends where about you are going. I'd say generally there are more mule deer but some areas have a decent amount of whitetail.

I have access in 381 just north of the river and have only seen mule deer and elk.

Whitetails spread farther and farther to the west each year.  Don't be surprised to see a white flag or two.  We've seen em as far west as right outside othello

Primarily Muley's 90+% imo...If you have a crack at 14,000 acres of private dirt I wouldn't be too worried about pressure.

Well boys....I got the call from the owner and my wife and I are in!
He said almost all mule deer. I checked the assessor office and they do have over 14,000 acres! So yes no doubt no pressure!!! Also about 5 miles of river frontage, we should have a great hunt!!

You should be in for a good hunt down there along the Snake. Glassing and looking in the breaks, you should have no problem filling a tag. I had a late doe tag last year for a ranch that was just off the river near Starbuck, they had some great looking bucks that we saw the day I was there.

What GMU?  The river runs through a bunch and varies as it meanders

A great hunt. I prefer the late hunts there and hunting by boat you can cover more area. We have taken both mule deer and whitetails over there. Here is a couple bucks we took in 2014

We are in GMU 149, the owner said mostly mulies, however there may be a few nice wt bucks hiding out in there too! The wife and I are heading over in August to meet and greet and do some scouting.

My wife and I stayed at the Lewis and Clark Trail state park for a few days at the end of August. Hit the wine circle a couple of days, went swimming at Lyons Ferry, and did some scouting. As stated the property is on the Snake river, we saw no whitetail on the property, all mulies. But driving from Waitsburg up to the property holy cow, whitetail everywhere! We saw around 100 in 2 miles!
I also got a text from my 18 year old niece, she wants to go with my wife and I this year to hunt, so I asked the land owner and he said they would set us up! So my goal is a buck for each gal! My niece has never shot a deer, so this should be exciting. I took them to the Tacoma Sportsman's club yesterday and shot the rifles, she did well at 100 yards!
The property is almost all CRP grass, sage brush, a smidge of dryland wheat and about 5 corn circles. So lots of open terrain. Really hope this works out.

Went well! However, it is hunting not shooting, and having two women tagging along behind you when hunting very open country is...well...not easy. I did get my niece on a 3 point, 125 yards, on the sticks, in the scope, quartering to us, take your time settle down....waiting....waiting....waiting....deer trots off! What happened I ask, she says she tried to place the cross hairs exactly where I told her. I guess I should have told her not that exact. My fault.
Ended up with this 3 pt. just before dark on opening day. It happened fast as they often do, quick glance at both bucks, the first one is larger, bang, in the neck at 150 yards. The niece loved watching me field dress the deer, she held legs and asked questions. I think next year I will have her apply for a doe tag. Get one under her belt before dealing with the whole 3 pt. minimum game.
Ranch was very nice, we saw 60 deer per day, about 5 bucks per day, a few big ones and lots of in between. Will try to go back for sure!
