Teanaway
« on: June 30, 2016, 06:07:49 PM »
Anyone hunt the Teanaway recently? Looking at the numbers it seems like a pretty sparsely hunted area. I'm wondering if it is due to the large amount of ORV and foot traffic in the area. I have heard it is more of a wintering area for the local herds and not a ton of action during summer months. Is there any truth to this? Also, is the Community forest just a total cluster come early season because of all the outdoor rec?

there isn't a whole lot of Orv trails in the teanaway. It's a great unit to hunt just a lot of area. Get your scouting in and you should be fine. The community forest is really no different than afr. Except you know need a discover pass

Thanks Teanawayslayer. I'll be checking it out soon. Just hope I don't find my way into the outfitter areas.

Not certain what you mean by "outfitter areas" I own property in 335 and can tell you there's deer there but they don't leave private much. Tons of public land, just be ready to put in some serious boot miles to get into good deer. And please, shoot some coyotes while you are out there!

The deer are exactly where you find them, and no where you dont!

What I meant by outfitter areas was the areas where the local outfitters like to drop their people. My hope is to get out and away from people. We will be going for elk so hopefully there are a couple still left out there that the wolves haven't  run off.

You won't have a problem staying away from outfitter areas in there...not many people make money outfitting into true spike only areas with topography like the Teanaway. I've hunted it every year Ive elk hunted and never ran into an outfitter.

We drew some of the early rifle cow tags, hopefully going to get over there and look around. Good luck on your hunt!
