How soon?
« on: July 08, 2016, 10:47:39 AM »
I hung some cameras and salt pretty far back in on the fourth.  Because it is so far back in I only have the 24th of July and sometime in late August to check them.  Would you check then after only three weeks to make sure you are getting pictures etc...  in case you need a new memory card or want to pull a camera go a new spot it would you just let it be until the end of August?

I guess what I really wonder is 3 weeks long enough to get an idea of whether they are hitting the salt?   Thoughts?

I would be more worried about batteries if you didn't use lithium.  If you used 16gb or more card you should have space.

I can leave a camera all summer on lithium batteries and a 32gb card.  That said an elk or bear can redirect or bump it within days of setting.

3 weeks is long enough.

I left cameras all summer on el cheapo AA batteries and still had 3/4 power left in the summer time. I wouldn't expect that sort of life in the colder weather however.
I've had 2000+ pictures on 8gb cards too.

I use cheap batteries and try to check my cams every other week or so.

I would definitely check at the 3 week mark to make sure you are getting photos and everything is working correct.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

Yes I am thinking I will go check them.  I only have an 8 GB card in too.  Just way too excited to see what's on them.   :IBCOOL:

Haven't had a camera in this spot yet, but killed a bull in there last year.  One of the cams is targeting Mule Deer too.

You'll be fine with 8gb cards.

You will be surprised at how long the batteries will last.  I left a Bushnell for 15 months once (it uses 8 sized AAA batteries), and it was still working when I retrieved it.  You will not fill 8GB in 3 weeks.

The real issue is your desire to check the results (and, the need to be sure it is working properly).  Don't sweat about the batteries or the data card, just check it for the right reason.
