I hope the guys that are fishing mid-channel and releasing wild fish realize that they are pre-emptively hitting our quota of "wild contacts" before the catch and kill season is even open. This will only shorten our already limited opportunity to keep some Puget Sound Kings this year.

I don't blame anyone for wanting to get out and fish, its driving me nuts too. Just have to look at the big picture for minute.

Oh I know about the formula. Coho impacts could shut down the fishery faster than wild Kings but regardless if anyone asks the only bites I have are ones that yield fish in the cooler. Never tell the fish checkers when you have to release a fish.

Undermining the control system through mis-information is going to have a greater impact on the fishery and reduce the sustainability of the runs.

We need to get the nets out of the rivers. That has an exponentially larger impact than sportsman

Better get out there Saturday.  Might be over by the end of the day.  With no coho season, everybody and their brother will be out there.  And if the catching was as easy as last year, might be over by noon.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

Agreed, but that doesn't excuse misinforming the management of the resource.

The unfairness argument is flawed. This is a equality issue and yes the difference in these terms matters a great deal. Sportsman should be rallying around an equality narrative rather than having King 5 publish some hack piece on how "Unfair" it is to close the Skagit because well the Native Americans got to fish and we didn't. Drivel!

Fair has got nothing to do with it.

Please go listen to the Conservation Matters Podcast with Shane Mahoney.

The "Idealism Moves the World" was inspiring although he does jump around some, in my opinion the points he makes are very relevant to this issue.

Anyone doing well there? Should've made the trek up there and fished point no point. We finally got skunked for the first time in 5 or 6 years out in the sound salmon fishing today with no keepers brought home at jeffs head on the boat my dad bought back then. We usually at least get 2 or 3 keepers a trip. Can't believe how much dogsharks were around the area, never had that much problem with them in years past, maybe catching one a trip. We hooked about 8 of them during the morning tide. Saw one charter with a keeper and a moocher catch and release a fish.

I got a nice 14 pound hatchery king off the light house at Fort Flagler this morning right at about 9:30 on a Point Wilson Dart. Got it to the boat after it made a few good runs on me. Also took home a limit of crab. Not many fish caught as far as I saw, especially with as many boats were stacked into such a small area. It was crazy.

So....after putting 35 crab in the boat yesterday and today I may be able to take my dad and nephew out this week for kings. Any reports on area 9? How's the bar fishing?  PNP? How long does anyone think it will stay open?

I talked to a few folks pulling out boats, they said the bite is early.  Gear in the water as early as you can, fishing died about 730am and never came back after that.

I hope it stays open until next weekend, I guess we'll see......   :dunno:

I'd like to get my dad and nephew on a few but frankly don't know if I can get the old man up, moving, ready to go in time to make the run and get lines in the water for any chance at the early bite. Yesterday we were at the launch about 830 and folks were already back!

11 keepers to boat (limits everyday) so far this season first day not fishing today. Back to the office. Fishing slowed down yesterday probably cause the tide was a little later in the morning. Seen orcas last two days which was cool they put on a pretty good show both days. Fished mid channel sat, sun and tues. on Monday got one at point no point and one off double bluff.  Mid channel was on fire Saturday and Sunday. I must have seen 75 fish netted.  fish come in waves and bite peaks an hour before the the tide change have to capitalize when the fish turn on. Best area 9 salmon season in history for me. Can't imagine there is much quota left hope it's open this weekend.
