dove season starts in a month

For the first time since moving to the dry side I have started shooting my shotgun before the opener.  I want to work on my mount so every Thursday I've been going to the local gun club and shooting two rounds of skeet.

It appears the only the slow, dumb doves will be shot.

lol get ya a mojo dove,it relly slows them down and brings them in...I love to shoot at them boogers and so good eating

open up the choke with a skeet tube.  It will help your skeet score and should be more than enough to bring down those nasty flying doves

I bought a mojo a couple of years ago.  It really works on the doves in the back yard.  They sit in the ground in front of it and appear hypnotized.   Out in the field it doesn't have the same effect.   Last year I did buy a taller stand that also allowed other doves to be clipped on the stand. Jury's still out on that but in addition to pre-season practice this year I will also scout before the season.

What's different is my dog decided she wanted to retrieve last season and I hate to disappoint her with lame shooting.

I think pre-season scouting is the key to good dove hunting seasons.

And im off for opener this year.  I have yet to find a good concentration of them lil buggars, but I know of a few places I can go to get a handful sometimes.

I'm also looking forward to September 1st.  Been shooting trap with the new 20 gauge and starting to feel comfortable with it.  Haven't hunted birds in a number of years so this season (doves, quail, pheasants, chuckers/huns, and ducks) should be interesting.  Mostly looking forward to just getting outdoors again after not hunting for several years.  Now I need to up my scouting time and plan some adventures.

Nick's eyeballing the batch that's in the back yard at the bird feeder and he's shooting skeet with me at the range.  Molly has caught one eurasian so far and thinks she is fast enough and small enough to catch some more.  It's hard to hide in toe nail tall grass.

Its hard to scout for dove, as it all depends on there migration.  And it seems every year, the week prior to opener we get a big cold snap that pushes them out.  I hope that doesn't happen again this year.

Bill and I were talking about that the other day. If there isn't a huge cold snap I think I know of a few good places!
