I typically hunt it during late archery season over the prior 2 seasons and seen elk every day. So this last season I decided I would give muzzleloader a shot.
The night before opening day I seen 6 elk with 1 being a nice 5x5. The 2 days following I never seen a elk or any fresh sign. I headed back for the last 2 days of the early season as well. Same results not a single track or elk to be seen.
Very odd considering the amount of elk I have always seen the in area I hunt. But I will probably hunt it at least 2 days this coming season. I like the area and just gotta hope the elk will be there this coming season

Thanks for the info, what is the terrain and access like? I am planning on scouting it this summer in hopes of muzzle loader hunting come fall. Is this area generally crowded during muzzle loader season? Not looking for any honey holes just a general layout of the area

ya I have been up in the area before they opened it last year for early muzzle loader last year for the first time unfortunately I didn't get to hunt it last year due to work but thinking about spending the whole week up there this year I seen a ton of elk up there before just gotta get out and scout it out I suppose but it will probably be a zoo up there I assume.  :dunno:

Have to buy a permit $50 walk in $300 drive in. Good for a year.

Where I have hunted it was good years ago, not so good since the log off. Do see 'em occasionally. Only go there now when I'm being lazy and don't wanna walk much.
