Am I Too Early?
« on: August 01, 2016, 07:28:13 AM »
I went out again yesterday to scout for archery and was pleasantly surprised to see two legal bulls and a cow hanging out with them.  We sat for awhile and watched them but didn't see anything else (I think other cows were in trees behind them).

I checked all my cams and they confirmed that a whole herd of elk have been frequenting this area quite a bit, including those two legal bulls.

With only 40 days until archery, what are the odds these guys will stick around?

Technically west side but I hunt pretty high, backwoods, and close to the border of east/west.

I think you're going to be alright as long as the elk don't get blown out by other people in scouting or whatever.  Is there rubs in the area from last year?

Why would they move between now and then? Unless they can go higher if it gets a whole lot warmer???  :dunno:

If there's rut rut sign from years past there should be elk in that area September.

I also have that mini heart attack when people vaguely describe their areas.

My guess is they are raghorns that are still hanging close to Ma.  When the rut hits, they will get shoved out by a herd bull, but will still be close to the herd.  Again, this is me assuming they are 3x or 4x somethings.
May that for which I prepare never come to pass.
